Revamping Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Ancestral Village in UP as a Tourist Spot
New Delhi: Bateshwar village in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district, the ancestral village of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is undergoing a significant transformation to become a prominent tourist destination. The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is investing approximately Rs 100 crore in the development of Bateshwar, with the aim of attracting visitors from around the world.
“The village will soon be recognised all over the world as a tourist spot near Agra, connected to the city through helicopter services,” local MLA Pakshalika Singh told .
As part of the comprehensive efforts to boost tourism around Agra, the Adityanath-led government is implementing various initiatives in the region. One such initiative is the construction of an ‘Atal Sankul’ center in Bateshwar, which will serve as a focal point for cultural and educational activities. The estimated cost for this center is Rs 12 crore, and it is set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Adityanath.
To provide a unique experience to visitors, motorboat rides have been introduced in the scenic Yamuna River, drawing large crowds. The riverbed is currently undergoing desilting and deepening processes, allowing boats to traverse freely. Additionally, the ‘ghats’ along the riverbanks have been revamped, providing an enhanced ambiance for religious and leisure activities.
In an effort to preserve the village’s rich heritage, several temples that had fallen into disuse have been meticulously restored and are once again fully operational. Furthermore, a hot air balloon pad is being developed, adding a touch of adventure and offering scenic aerial views to tourists.
The ambitious developments in Bateshwar village signify the government’s commitment to promoting tourism and preserving cultural heritage. With the forthcoming inauguration of the ‘Atal Sankul’ center and the accessibility improvements through helicopter services, Bateshwar aims to captivate visitors from around the globe, enticing them with its remarkable temples, vibrant riverfront, and cultural experiences.
