MG VS SUV Spied in India: A Restyled Astor with Hybrid Power
New Delhi: MG’s latest SUV, the VS Hybrid (HEV), has been spotted undisguised in India for the first time. The VS HEV is a heavily restyled version of the Astor SUV, sold in markets like Thailand and Indonesia, known as the ZS.
MG VS Hybrid: Design and Features
The MG VS HEV, launched in Thailand in July 2022, showcases a significantly redesigned front fascia. It features new headlamps and an enclosed grille, setting it apart from the current-gen Astor available in India. The interior of the VS HEV also sees substantial changes, with a new dashboard layout and a completely overhauled central tunnel that includes a new gear lever. The Thai model boasts a dual-screen setup, although details about the cabin from the latest spy shots remain limited.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the MG VS is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid powertrain, producing a combined output of 177hp. This engine is paired with an e-CVT gearbox. The hybrid technology in the VS is akin to that found in the Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid and the Toyota Hyryder hybrid, both known for their efficiency and performance.
Future Plans for the Astor
The next-generation design of the MG Astor has recently been leaked, indicating significant updates over the current model. It remains to be seen if MG will introduce a mid-life facelift for the Astor in India that aligns with the changes seen in the VS. The company is also planning to bring a strong-hybrid powertrain to the Astor, as part of a broader strategy to launch eight new products in India between 2025 and 2028.
Upcoming MG Launches
This year, MG is set to introduce the facelifted Gloster and the Cloud EV to the Indian market. The arrival of the MG VS HEV, with its advanced hybrid technology and refreshed design, marks an exciting development for SUV enthusiasts in India.
