Anti-Terror Operation in Poonch: Soldier Killed

New Delhi: On Tuesday, Anti-Terror Operation erupted along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Battal sector of Poonch district, resulting in the tragic death of Lance Naik Subhash Chander of the 7 Jat Regiment. Officials confirmed that Chander, a resident of Nagla Mani village in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to his injuries after a brave confrontation with infiltrating terrorists. The incident took place around 3 am, when soldiers observed suspicious movement by two terrorists near their position.

“Lance Naik Subhash Chander, who was part of an ambush on the LoC in the Battal area of Krishna Ghati sector, suffered critical injuries during the exchange of fire,” officials reported. Despite the soldiers’ rapid and effective response to the intrusion, Chander was severely wounded in the ensuing gunfight.

The White Knight Corps, a prominent division of the Indian Army, communicated the unfortunate news through their official handle on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter). “Alert troops foiled an #infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating #terrorists with effective fire in the #Battal Sector at 0300h (3 am). During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing.” The later confirmation of Chander’s death highlighted the soldier’s courageous efforts in defending the nation.

This tragic event occurred shortly after another attack on Monday, where terrorists targeted the home of village defense guard Parshotam Kumar and an army picket at Gundna Khawas. This attack left Kumar’s uncle, Vijay Kumar, and a soldier wounded. The Nagrota-based 16 Corps reported this incident, stressing the escalating threat of terrorist activities in the area. The attack, which happened at 3.10 am, has spread fear among local residents due to the perceived increase in terrorist presence.

These violent occurrences unfolded merely days after Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi led a joint security review meeting on Saturday. The meeting, held at the police headquarters, included senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies. The primary focus was on evaluating the current security scenario and formulating strategies to counter the persistent threats posed by terrorists in the region.

The recent wave of terrorist activities underscores the significant challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. It also highlights the immense sacrifices made by soldiers like Lance Naik Subhash Chander, who put their lives on the line to protect the nation. The collaborative efforts of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies remain crucial in addressing these threats and ensuring the safety of the region’s inhabitants. The ongoing operations and security measures are a testament to the relentless dedication of the armed forces in their mission to safeguard the country.
