Trivandrum Hosts Kerala’s Largest Bridge Tournament from October 25 to 27
Trivandrum: The upcoming HCL South Zone Bridge Open Championship, set to take place from October 25 to 27, 2024, at the Hycinth Hotel in Thampanoor, Trivandrum, is expected to be Kerala’s largest bridge event. Supported by HCL, this championship will bring together over 200 players, both national and international, to compete for a total prize purse of Rs. 4 lakhs.

About the Championship
Organized by the Kairali Bridge Association
The event is organized by the Kairali Bridge Association and features 30 teams from across India, including those from Bengal, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, as well as players from Sri Lanka, adding an international element to the tournament.

History and Evolution of the South Zone Bridge Championship
From Regional to National Level
The South Zone Bridge Championship was first held in 1975, initially attracting teams primarily from Southern India. With HCL’s support, the championship has now been elevated to an all-India open tournament approved by the Bridge Federation of India (BFI), making it eligible for Federation Master Points. This upgrade is significant for the national player grading system, bringing higher recognition and competition standards.

India’s renowned bridge players, R. Krishnan and P. Sridhar from Chennai, are set to participate in the event.
