MG M9: Luxury Electric MPV Launched in India

MG Motor India has launched its new premium electric MPV, the MG M9, in India. This car is designed for customers seeking the perfect blend of comfort, luxury, and performance. The M9 is offered in just one feature-rich, fully loaded variant.

Design & Exterior

The MG M9 sports a boxy yet premium look. Its front features a full-width grille and sharp LED DRLs. Sleek side lines and large alloy wheels enhance its high-end MPV appearance. At dimensions of 5,270 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,840 mm in height, along with a 3,200 mm wheelbase, it delivers impressive interior space.

Interior & Cabin

The cabin of this electric MPV gives a lounge- or mini-bedroom-like experience. The second row comprises two ottoman captain seats that offer reclining, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. All seats are leather-wrapped and follow a cognac-brown theme.

Inside, it includes 65‑color ambient lighting, a dual panoramic sunroof, a 13‑speaker JBL sound system, wireless charging, and a 12.23‑inch touchscreen infotainment system, along with a 7‑inch digital driver display.

Battery, Range & Performance

The MG M9 is equipped with a 90 kWh NMC (Nickel‑Manganese‑Cobalt) battery pack, providing a driving range of 548 km on a single charge. It is powered by a 245 hp electric motor delivering 350 Nm of torque.

Charging options include:

  • 160 kW DC fast charger, achieving full charge in about 90 minutes.
  • 11 kW AC home charger, taking around 9.5 hours for a full charge.

Safety Features

The MG M9 takes safety to a new level — it boasts 5-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP, ensuring high levels of protection for adults, children, and pedestrians. The vehicle is equipped with 7 airbags covering both front and rear occupants.

Its safety technology includes:

  • A Level-2 ADAS package with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Autonomous Emergency Braking.
  • A 360° surround-view camera and front/rear parking sensors to aid in maneuvering.
  • ESP (Electronic Stability Program), TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), ABS-EBD, and driver fatigue monitoring systems.
  • Advanced systems such as Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear-Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Traffic Sign Recognition, making the MG M9 one of the safest electric MPVs in the Indian market.

Boot Space & Storage

The M9 offers 945 liters of boot space, which expands to 1,720 liters when the third-row seats are folded. Additionally, there’s a 55 liter front trunk for extra storage.

Price & Availability

The ex-showroom price of this impressive electric MPV is ₹69.90 lakh. It is being sold through MG Select dealerships and the official website. Bookings have begun with a ₹1 lakh token amount, and deliveries are set to start from August 10, 2025.

Competition

In the Indian market, the MG M9 competes primarily with the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire, offering buyers a compelling mix of luxury, extended range, and advanced technology.

Unlike the Vellfire’s petrol–hybrid setup and the Carnival’s diesel engine, the M9 stands out as a purely electric luxury MPV, delivering 245 hp and 350 Nm of torque against Carnival’s 190 hp and Vellfire’s 142 hp . Dimensionally, the MG M9 is the largest—about 5,200 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, and with a 3,200 mm wheelbase—surpassing both the Carnival and Vellfire in cabin space and road presence .

Feature-wise, the M9 matches or exceeds competition with Level‑2 ADAS, powered reclining and massage seats, rear entertainment screens, fold-out ottoman functionality, and dual sunroofs—features comparable to what Carnival and Vellfire offer, but all packaged in an EV architecture .

Price-wise, the MG M9 is expected to be positioned around ₹69‑70 lakh ex-showroom—just slightly above the Carnival’s ₹63.9 lakh but well below the Vellfire’s ₹1.22–1.32 crore premium offering . This price positioning, combined with its electric powertrain and feature-rich interior, makes the M9 an attractive alternative in the premium MPV segment.

Conclusion

The MG M9 is a significant addition to India’s EV segment. With its excellent range, premium interior, and advanced safety features, it’s an attractive option for those seeking a luxury family car or business-class electric vehicle. If you’re in the market for a spacious, well-equipped electric MPV, the MG M9 deserves a top spot on your shortlist.
