Maruti’s Upcoming Electric MPV to Share eVX EV’s Skateboard Platform
New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki is preparing for a massive product lineup expansion including the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs). Among the upcoming EVs is an all-electric MPV codenamed YMC, which is set to arrive in the Indian market by September 2026.
This electric MPV, YMC, will mark Maruti’s entry into the electric MPV segment and will use the same platform as the EVX SUV, known as the 27PL SKATEboard. This platform, jointly developed by Maruti and Toyota, is versatile and can accommodate different body styles.
Expected to be launched after about a year and a half, the EVX will become the sixth three-row model from the Maruti YMC brand, joining the likes of Ertiga, XL6, Invicto, the upcoming Grand Vitara-based seven-seater SUV and Suzuki Swift. Spacia-based hybrid MPV.
While specific details about the YMC are limited, it is anticipated to share powertrain components with the eVX, including battery options such as 40kWh and 60kWh units as well as electric motors. With the same powertrain components, the YMC is expected to offer a comparable maximum claimed range of 550 km, similar to the eVX.
Apart from sharing powertrain components, both the EVX SUV and YMC MPV are likely to have common elements on the interior and exterior, contributing to increased economies of scale.
As Maruti Suzuki continues to diversify its product portfolio and embrace electric mobility, the YMC Electric MPV represents another step towards providing sustainable and innovative transportation solutions to Indian consumers.
