New Delhi: India’s vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, has ascended to the 3rd position in the latest ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings, as per the update released on August 20. This advancement highlights her outstanding form in the 50-over format, where she now boasts 738 rating points, making her the highest-ranked Indian batter in ODIs.

Stellar Performance and Ranking Milestone

Mandhana’s rise in the rankings is a testament to her recent performances, particularly during the ODI series against South Africa in June. She delivered three consecutive innings of 50+ runs, including two centuries and a near-century, showcasing her exceptional batting skills. Her consistent form during this period has been instrumental in her climb to the 3rd spot.

T20I Rankings and Captaincy

In addition to her success in ODIs, Mandhana retains her 4th position in the ICC Women’s T20I Rankings. Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur maintains her 9th position in the ODI rankings, reflecting her steady performance in the shorter format.

Sri Lankan Players’ Movements

The latest rankings also show significant changes among Sri Lankan players. Chamari Athapaththu has dropped to 4th place, while Nilakshika de Silva has climbed to 32nd. Harshitha Samarawickrama has moved up to 44th, and Kavisha Dilhari has advanced to 50th in the ODI batting rankings. In T20Is, Samarawickrama’s 65-run innings against Ireland has elevated her to 13th place, and Gaby Lewis has achieved a career-high 21st position following her 119-run knock.

Milestone Achievements

Mandhana’s recent achievements include surpassing 7000 international runs during the series against South Africa, making her the second-highest run-scorer for India in international cricket, only behind Mithali Raj. Her remarkable performance solidifies her status as one of the leading players in the women’s game.

Following the South Africa series, the Indian team competed in the Asia Cup 2024, where they finished as runners-up to the hosts, Sri Lanka.
