Afforestation Initiative in Thane Supported by Salesforce and Green Yatra
New Delhi: Salesforce, the leading AI CRM company, has teamed up with Green Yatra, a prominent NGO dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to launch the Miyawaki afforestation project in Gholai Nagar, Thane.
This initiative unveiled in celebration of Earth Month, aims to bolster urban green cover, addressing health and safety concerns in the area. The project’s primary objective is the transformation of a dump yard, plagued by plastics, construction debris, and open sewage, into a thriving green space. Through the planting of over 33,000 saplings encompassing 45 native species across 3.5 acres, the project aims to enhance flora and fauna diversity, promote soil conservation, and sequester approximately 7,333,398 kilograms of carbon.
In a country like India, where environmental challenges are profound, afforestation initiatives are pivotal for fostering sustainable growth and improving the quality of life. The Miyawaki project is a significant step towards rejuvenating degraded landscapes and enriching urban biodiversity, in alignment with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to climate action, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.
Sanket Atal, Managing Director – Operations and Site Lead – Technology, Product, at Salesforce India said, “Sustainability is a core value at Salesforce, alongside trust, customer success, innovation, and equality. As a founding partner of 1t.org, we’re committed to supporting and mobilizing the conservation, restoration, and growth of trees across India. Our afforestation project in Thane is another step towards that goal of transforming degraded lands into lush, green spaces and pioneering ecological restoration.”
