Aman Sehrawat Wins Bronze with Dedication and Hard Work

Aman Sehrawat

New Delhi: At the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat overcame a significant challenge to win a bronze medal. After losing his semifinal match to Japan’s Rei Higuchi on August 8, Sehrawat had just 10 hours to make weight for his bronze medal bout. He weighed in at 61.5 kg, which was 4.5 kg over the 57 kg limit.

To address this, the 21-year-old Sehrawat, with the help of his coaches Jagmander Singh and Virender Dahiya, embarked on an intense weight-cutting regimen. They began with a 1.5-hour wrestling session to stimulate sweating. Following this, Sehrawat took a 1-hour hot bath, and then, at 12:30 am, engaged in a non-stop 1-hour run on the treadmill. After a 30-minute break, he underwent five 5-minute sauna sessions to continue the weight loss.

Despite these efforts, Sehrawat was still 900 grams over the limit. To shed the remaining weight, he completed five 15-minute running sessions. By 4:30 am, his weight had dropped to 56.9 kg, just under the limit.

Throughout this grueling process, Sehrawat stayed hydrated with lukewarm water mixed with lemon, honey, and a bit of coffee. Coach Dahiya emphasized the stress of the situation, stating, “We kept checking his weight every hour and didn’t sleep throughout the night.” Sehrawat’s dedication and hard work paid off, as he secured the first medal for the Indian wrestling team at the Games, showcasing his resilience and commitment.
