Andaman and Nicobar Islands Open Port Blair to E-Visa Tourists
New Delhi: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are poised for a tourism boom thanks to a pivotal policy update by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The approval of an Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Port Blair seaport will now permit foreign nationals with e-visas to enter the islands. This policy shift aims to elevate the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a premier destination on the global tourism stage. The initiative extends to five other major Indian seaports, including Mumbai, New Mangalore, Cochin, Mormugao, and Chennai, facilitating smoother entry for e-visa holders throughout the country.
Tourism Secretary Vishwendra highlighted that the optimal period for yacht charters runs from October to May. During this time, the calm seas and favorable tropical climate enhance the islands’ appeal for exploring their beautiful beaches and lagoons. Yacht tourism, a significant attraction, is expected to benefit greatly from this new accessibility.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, celebrated for their vibrant coral reefs and serene waters, are a haven for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The new e-visa policy will simplify travel for international tourists, aligning with the goal of establishing the islands as a top global destination.
Local tour operators view the e-visa system as a potential growth driver for adventure tourism, anticipating increased revenue as yachts and cruise ships can now dock directly. Despite this positive outlook, concerns remain over the high import tax on yachts, which stands at approximately 50 percent and may affect the expansion of yacht tourism.
In summary, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are set to enhance their global tourism profile, attracting a diverse range of international visitors, yacht enthusiasts, and business travelers.
