Apple's redesigned Apple TV user interface is likely to arrive with the tvOS 17.2 update

Apple is developing a revamped version of its Apple TV app, which is expected to launch with the tvOS 17.2 update in December. This update will change the look and functionality of the video streaming app on Appleā€™s smart TV box, offering a more streamlined and user-friendly experience.

Key Changes and Features

  • New Interface: The redesigned Apple TV app will feature a left-aligned side panel, similar to interfaces used by Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and other streaming services. This change will make it easier for users to navigate through various categories of TV shows and movies.
  • Centralized Content Purchasing: Apple plans to make the Apple TV app the sole platform for renting and purchasing movies and TV shows. The current iTunes apps for buying and renting content will be phased out. Users will soon have to use the Apple TV app for all their content purchases and rentals, whether on their Apple TV, iPhone, or iPad.
  • Streamlined Purchasing Process: The update will simplify the process of renting or purchasing content, integrating all functionalities into the Apple TV app. This will eliminate the need to switch between different apps to access content.

These updates aim to enhance the user experience by providing a unified platform for all video content needs. The redesigned Apple TV app is expected to be part of the tvOS 17.2 update, set to be released in December.
