In India, where traditional career paths often dominate, choosing the arts can feel like stepping into the unknown. But Abhishek Raj Sinha—known professionally as Raj—is redefining that narrative with a journey that blends courage, talent, and global ambition.

Growing up in Gurgaon, Raj’s musical journey began at a young age. A student of The Shri Ram School Aravali, he started learning tabla at just eight and soon transitioned to drums by the age of ten. Influenced by his elder sister, singer-songwriter Abhilasha Sinha, his interest in music gradually evolved into a serious pursuit.

Like many students, Raj initially followed the expected academic route, moving to the United States to study at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. However, it didn’t take long for him to recognize that his true passion lay elsewhere. Making a bold decision, he shifted to Nashville, Tennessee—a global epicenter for music—to study audio engineering at Belmont University.

This transition proved pivotal. Immersed in a vibrant creative ecosystem, Raj honed not only his technical expertise but also his performance skills. His collaboration with producer Mukul Jain at Ferris Wheel Studios helped him gain visibility, especially through his precise and energetic drumming showcased in various musical covers.

At Belmont, Raj expanded his creative footprint by working with multiple artists across genres. His collaboration with singer-songwriter Benjamin Joseph earned him a win at the Belmont Country Showcase, followed by a performance at the prestigious Best of the Best Showcase.

Over time, he has collaborated with artists including MALINDA, Venus and the Flytraps, Kamakshi Khanna, PhiloSofie, Aaditya Goswami, June Rosewell, and Abhilasha Sinha.

Currently based in Nashville, Raj works at Broken Door Studios as a drummer and audio engineer, actively contributing to diverse musical projects. His growing digital presence, particularly through Instagram (@rajondrums), reflects his rising global appeal.

Raj’s journey is a powerful reminder that success often lies beyond convention. For aspiring Indian musicians, his story reinforces a simple yet powerful idea—following your passion can open doors across the world.
