Corning Expands Innovation Footprint with New Digital and IT Center in Pune

Pune: Corning Incorporated, a global leader in materials science, has inaugurated its cutting-edge Digital & IT Center in Pune, Maharashtra. This new global capability center (GCC) underscores Corning’s dedication to continuous innovation and nurturing local talent, poised to create approximately 100 jobs over the next two years.

Strategically situated near the Corning Research Center India, the new GCC aims to bolster Corning’s digital capabilities in supply chain management, data analytics, cybersecurity, and other crucial IT domains. Soumya Seetharam, Corning’s Senior Vice President and Chief Digital and Information Officer, highlighted Pune’s potential, emphasizing opportunities for top talent to grow within the company.

“For our team in India, the sky is the limit. We’re seeking to hire top talent to support our technologies while giving them opportunities to grow in their roles and careers,” said Seetharam.

Corning’s longstanding commitment to India’s innovation landscape spans over 60 years, with recent initiatives including the Wireless India Development Center for 5G technology, a joint venture with SGD Pharma for a glass-tubing facility, and another with Optiemus Infracom for a local cover-glass finishing plant.

Sudhir Pillai, Managing Director of Corning India, expressed enthusiasm for the new center’s potential. “We’re excited to hire skilled professionals who can help us harness data in new ways, especially for smart manufacturing and the rapidly growing adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning,” Pillai stated. “Our new Digital & IT Center will allow us to advance these capabilities – along with ERP and cybersecurity – for Corning’s locations in India and around the world.”
