Exciting News: Google Pixel Phones in Europe Getting Option to Change Default Search Engine

New Delhi: Google Pixel smartphone users in Europe are in for a treat as they’re reportedly getting a new feature allowing them to change their default search engine. This option, found within the Pixel Launcher settings, lets users switch from Google to other search engines like Bing, DuckDuckGo, and more.

The move comes as Google aims to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which requires tech companies to offer more choice and competition to users. Similar actions have been taken by Apple, showing support for alternative app marketplaces and allowing third-party browsers to use their own engines.

According to reports from tipster Mishaal Rahman, Pixel users will receive a notification prompting them to choose their preferred search engine. Upon selection, the search bar icon on the home screen will reflect the chosen provider.

To access this feature manually, users can navigate to Pixel Launcher’s settings, then to Home Screen Search Settings, and finally to Search Engine. From there, they can choose their desired search engine from a list of options.

Google has been actively making changes to comply with regulations, including more than 20 product adjustments in search results and offering users the choice to share their data across Google services. Additionally, an “additional choice screen” will soon be introduced to allow users to change their default search engine or browser.

While the feature has begun rolling out to Pixel phones, it’s yet to be expanded to other Android devices. Keep an eye out for updates as Google continues to enhance user choice and experience.
