New Delhi: Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, succeeding the Ray-Ban Stories launched in September 2023, now feature advanced multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The update began rolling out on Tuesday in the US and Canada. Meta emphasized that the Meta AI integrated into these smart glasses can identify objects captured by the camera. Additionally, new frame styles and a video calling feature have been introduced.
In a newsroom post, Meta explained, “Just say, ‘Hey Meta,‘ and ask away! You can control the glasses using voice commands and access real-time information thanks to Meta AI.” While it’s unclear if the Meta AI is powered by Llama 3, Meta plans to showcase its latest foundation model soon.
Meta initially tested the AI features in December 2023 with a limited beta release, which has now expanded to all users in the US and Canada. Although the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are available in 13 more countries, there’s no specific timeline for AI feature availability.
According to reports , while Meta claims the AI can be activated with “Hey Meta,” the actual prompt that works is “Hey Meta, look and…” followed by the subject of interest. Using the feature is simple: focus on an object like a flower or a car and ask Meta AI for information.
In addition to AI enhancements, the smart glasses now support video calling through Meta apps, providing the other participant with a wearer’s point-of-view. Meta also introduced new frame styles, including the Skyler frame and Headliner low bridge fit frame for the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
