India Clinches Women’s Asia Cup 2024 Title with Dominant 10-Wicket Win Over Bangladesh

New Delhi: In a commanding display of cricket, the Indian women’s team captured the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 title with a decisive 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the final held in Dambulla on Friday.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Bangladesh struggled against the Indian bowlers. The team could only muster 80/8 in their 20 overs. Indian bowlers Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav were exceptional, each taking three wickets to stifle the Bangladesh batting lineup. Singh’s precise and aggressive bowling was pivotal in dismantling the opposition, while Yadav provided crucial support. Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma also contributed with a wicket each, further limiting Bangladesh’s scoring.

In response, India’s chase was led by openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, who made light work of the target. Mandhana remained unbeaten with a superb 55* off 39 balls, including nine boundaries and a six. Verma also played a solid hand, scoring 26* from 28 balls. India reached the target of 81 runs in just 11 overs, winning with ease at 83/0.

Following the match, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised the performance of her bowlers, commending their execution of strategies and consistency. She expressed pride in the team’s dominance in Asian cricket and stressed the importance of maintaining their form. Kaur also mentioned that the team would prepare for their next challenge based on the outcome of the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan semi-final.
