Jaishankar Emphasizes Education’s Role in Boosting India’s Global Influence
New Delhi: India is strategically leveraging education to enhance its global engagement, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Speaking at an event on Thursday, Jaishankar described education as a “key vehicle” for accelerating India’s interactions with the international community. His comments were made during the handover of a Letter of Intent to the University of Southampton, which will be establishing a campus in India as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Jaishankar emphasized that this development represents a significant milestone in the realm of international education in India. The establishment of foreign university campuses aligns with the goals of NEP 2020, which aims to position India as a global education hub and foster greater academic collaboration with top institutions worldwide.
The minister highlighted that these initiatives will not only provide high-quality education closer to Indian students but also facilitate deeper cultural and intellectual exchanges between India and other countries. By attracting leading global universities to set up campuses in India, NEP 2020 seeks to create a dynamic educational environment that meets international standards.
Jaishankar underscored the strategic importance of education in India’s future, noting its role in strengthening the country’s global influence and engagement. The collaboration with the University of Southampton is seen as a significant step towards achieving these goals, reflecting India’s commitment to using education as a tool to build stronger international ties and enhance its global presence.
