Jay Shah Appointed ICC Chairman, Becomes the Youngest Ever
New Delhi: Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been officially appointed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). At just 35 years old, Shah will make history as the youngest person to ever hold this prestigious position when he takes over on December 1, 2024. He will succeed Greg Barclay, who opted not to pursue a third term.
Shah’s election came as a result of Barclay’s decision not to seek re-election. With no other nominees stepping forward, Shah’s appointment reflects a broad consensus among cricketing stakeholders. Shah’s career in cricket administration began in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association. Since 2019, he has served as the BCCI Secretary, having been re-elected for a second term in 2022. Additionally, Shah has been the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) since 2021 and was re-elected for a second term in 2023.
