Lenovo Unveils World’s First Transparent Laptop at MWC 2024: Here’s What You Need to Know
New Delhi: Lenovo has wowed audiences at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona with the debut of the world’s first transparent laptop, resembling something straight out of a sci-fi flick. The ThinkBook Transparent Concept boasts a 17.3-inch display without borders, a see-through keyboard area, and a sleek floating footpad design.
What sets this laptop apart is its innovative transparent screen, which can reach up to 55% transparency when displaying black pixels. However, the transparency reduces when the pixels light up. With a peak brightness of 1,000 nits and a 720p resolution, the display promises a vibrant viewing experience.
Unlike many premium laptops, the ThinkBook Transparent opts for a MicroLED display over AMOLED. Lenovo claims this choice results in better saturation, transparency, brightness, and overall image quality.
While specific hardware details remain undisclosed, Lenovo confirms the laptop runs on Windows 11, similar to other high-end models.
One of the most intriguing features showcased in Lenovo’s concept video is the flat touch keyboard, which is projected rather than physical. Interestingly, the keyboard fades away when a pen is brought close to the ThinkBook. Lenovo suggests this transparent laptop could be particularly useful for artists or architects, facilitating easy sketching and design work.
As for availability, like its predecessor, the rollable laptop unveiled last year, the transparent laptop is currently a proof of concept. However, Lenovo’s executive director of ThinkPad portfolio, Tom Butler, expressed ‘very high confidence’ that this technology will evolve into a real product within the next five years.
