New Delhi: Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s largest SUV manufacturer, is gearing up to expand its SUV lineup with the new Mahindra Thar 5-door, set to launch on August 15. Ahead of the official introduction, images of the SUV have been released, revealing key design features.
Design Highlights
The new Mahindra Thar 5-door showcases a fresh front design with a six-slot double-stacked grille. It retains the circular headlamps of the Thar 3-door but now includes LED projectors with C-shaped DRLs. Additionally, it features a camera on the ORVMs, indicating a 360-degree camera setup.
Interior Features
Inside, the Mahindra Thar 5-door will come equipped with dual 10.25-inch displays—one for infotainment and one for the instrument cluster. It will also have a panoramic sunroof and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), similar to those in the new XUV 3XO and flagship XUV700.
Engine Options and Pricing
The Thar 5-door is expected to share its powertrains with the Thar 3-door. This includes:
- 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel (118PS and 300Nm)
- 2.2-litre mHawk 130 CRDe diesel (132PS and 300Nm)
- 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDi petrol (152PS and 320Nm)
Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Pricing for the Mahindra Thar 5-door is anticipated to range from Rs 12.50 lakh to Rs 18.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Competition and Portfolio
The Mahindra Thar 5-door will compete with models like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha. Mahindra’s current SUV lineup includes the Bolero, Bolero Neo, Bolero Neo Plus, XUV 3XO, Thar 3-door, Scorpio Classic, Scorpio-N, and XUV700. They also offer the XUV400 electric SUV.
