New Delhi: McLaren has unveiled the Artura Spider, its inaugural hybrid convertible, boasting enhancements destined for the coupé variant. Weighing a mere 1,457kg, this PHEV drop-top sets new standards with its lightness, leveraging a myriad of chassis and aerodynamic upgrades.

The Artura Spider stakes its claim as the lightest convertible supercar in its class, outshining rivals like the Maserati MC20 Cielo and Ferrari 296 GTS by up to 83kg. Crafted with lightweight materials, including carbon fibre for the folding hard-top, it sits just 62kg heavier than its coupe counterpart.

Under the hood lies the Ricardo-developed 120-degree 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, now tuned to deliver an additional 19hp, resulting in a robust 604hp output. Coupled with the 94hp axial flux motor, the total system generates 699hp, yielding a power-to-weight ratio of 480hp per tonne. Acceleration remains brisk, with a 0-100kph time matching the coupe’s swift 3.0 seconds.

Enhancing its allure, the Artura Spider features an electrically folding hard-top, available in carbon fiber or with an electrochromic glass panel. Operating at speeds of up to 50kph, the roof unfurls in a mere eight seconds, underscoring its status as one of the quickest-folding convertibles on the market.

Attention to aerodynamics is paramount, with innovations such as an 8mm foil on the windscreen facilitating smoother airflow over the cabin. International deliveries of the Artura Spider and updated coupe are slated to commence mid-year, following closely on the heels of the refreshed GT and the debut of the new 750S, succeeding the 720S.

In the Indian market, McLaren offers an enticing lineup comprising the GT, Artura, and 750S, with the Artura Spider anticipated to join the fray in the near future, although specifics regarding its launch timeline remain undisclosed.
