Mumbai-Bound Train Derails in Jharkhand: 2 Dead, 20 Injured
New Delhi: Early this morning, a tragic train derailment occurred near Badabamboo, approximately 80 km from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. The Howrah-CSMT Express, bound for Mumbai, experienced a major derailment at around 3:45 am, resulting in the death of two passengers and injuries to 20 others. A total of 18 coaches were involved in the incident, including 16 passenger coaches, a power car, and a pantry car.
West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary, who is currently managing the emergency response at the site, confirmed that rescue operations began immediately after the derailment was reported. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been dispatched to assist local authorities in the rescue efforts. The Railways’ medical team provided initial treatment to the injured, who were later transported to Chakradharpur for further medical care.
In a related development, Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan revealed that a nearby goods train had also derailed around the same time. However, it remains uncertain whether the two incidents are connected, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the derailments.
As a result of the accident, several trains on the affected route have been either canceled or rerouted to ensure passenger safety and facilitate the ongoing rescue and recovery operations. The Railways have arranged buses to transport stranded passengers to their destinations, providing some relief amid the disruption.
The incident underscores the critical need for stringent safety protocols and effective emergency response measures in railway operations. Authorities are continuing their efforts to assist those affected and to restore normalcy on the route. Further updates on the investigation and the condition of the injured are anticipated as the situation develops.
