Ola Electric Expands Its Portfolio with New Motorcycles and Announces Integration of Advanced Battery Technology
New Delhi: Ola Electric has taken a significant step in reinforcing its market leadership by unveiling its latest electric motorcycles and announcing a major future development in its electric vehicle (EV) technology. The company’s new offerings include the Roadster, Roadster X, and Roadster Pro motorcycles, marking its entry into the electric motorcycle segment. Additionally, Ola Electric has revealed plans to integrate its own battery cells into its vehicles starting from Q1 FY26.
The announcement was made during Sankalp 2024, Ola Electric’s annual launch event held at its Futurefactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, on August 15, 2024. At the event, Ola showcased its indigenously developed Bharat 4680 cell and battery pack, along with the new Gen-3 platform and MoveOS 5 software.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder and CMD of Ola Electric, highlighted the importance of the new motorcycles in accelerating EV adoption in India’s two-wheeler market, which is predominantly composed of motorcycles. He emphasized that Ola’s entry into this segment, combined with the integration of its advanced cells, is poised to drive mass EV adoption across the country.
The Roadster series, including Roadster, Roadster X, and Roadster Pro, is built on a scalable, modular platform featuring a minimalist, futuristic design. The Roadster X, designed for the entry-level segment, boasts a peak motor output of 11 kW and offers impressive performance metrics, including a 0-40 kmph acceleration time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 124 kmph. It is available in 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh battery variants, with deliveries scheduled for Q4 FY25.
The standard Roadster features a more powerful 13 kW motor and offers battery options of 3.5 kWh, 4.5 kWh, and 6 kWh. It achieves 0-40 kmph in just 2 seconds and has a top speed of 126 kmph, with a range of 248 km. The Roadster Pro, the flagship model, offers exceptional performance with a peak power output of 52 kW and a top speed of 194 kmph. It is equipped with a 16 kWh battery providing an impressive range of 579 km. The Roadster Pro features advanced technology such as ADAS, traction control, and race-track modes.
Reservations for all Roadster variants commenced on August 15, 2024, with prices for the Roadster X starting at INR 74,999, the standard Roadster at INR 1,04,999, and the Roadster Pro at INR 1,99,999. Delivery timelines vary by model, with the Roadster X and Roadster expected to be delivered in Q4 FY25, while the Roadster Pro will be available in Q4 FY26.
Ola Electric is also set to introduce its Bharat 4680 cell technology, which promises significant advancements in energy density, charge cycles, and fast-charging capabilities. The cell, currently in trial production at Ola’s Gigafactory, is expected to enhance the company’s competitive edge with its efficient cost structure and advanced technology.
The new Gen-3 platform will form the basis for future Ola Electric vehicles, offering scalability, improved performance, and cost reduction. Additionally, MoveOS 5, the latest iteration of Ola’s operating software, will include new features such as Group Navigation, Live Location Sharing, and enhanced performance metrics. The beta version of MoveOS 5 will be available by Diwali.
Sankalp 2024, held at Ola’s Futurefactory, marked a milestone in showcasing India’s technological advancements and self-reliance, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The event underscored Ola Electric’s commitment to driving innovation and fostering homegrown technological solutions in the EV sector.
