New Delhi: India solidified their position in Group 1 of the T20 World Cup 2024 by securing a decisive 47-run win against Afghanistan in their Super-8 match at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. This victory keeps India’s unbeaten record intact and strengthens their chances of advancing to the knockout stages. Winning the toss, India opted to bat first and made a strategic change by including Kuldeep Yadav in place of Mohammed Siraj. Afghanistan also adjusted their lineup, bringing in Hazratullah Zazai for Karim Janat.

India faced some challenges but managed to post a competitive total of 181/8. Suryakumar Yadav stood out with a crucial 53 runs, anchoring the innings. Despite losing key wickets, including those of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India set a formidable target. Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi shone for Afghanistan, each claiming three wickets and taking the significant scalps of Kohli and Sharma. Their efforts, however, were not enough to completely contain the Indian batsmen, allowing India to reach a challenging total.

In response, Afghanistan struggled to gain momentum against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh were particularly effective, each taking three wickets and disrupting Afghanistan’s batting lineup. Their combined efforts ensured Afghanistan fell short of the target by 47 runs. This comprehensive victory underscores India’s dominant form in the tournament and highlights their bowlers’ capability to defend competitive totals. With this win, India boosts their confidence and maintains their unbeaten record as they advance further in the competition. India’s next matches will be crucial as they continue their quest for the T20 World Cup title, with both their batting and bowling units performing in sync.
