New Delhi: Toyota’s recently launched Taisor SUV, known as the Urban Cruiser in India, is gearing up for an international debut under a new moniker – the Toyota Starlet Cross. Sources reveal that the made-in-India Taisor will soon be exported to South Africa, where it will join Toyota’s lineup of rebadged Indian models.

In a move to expand its presence in international markets, Toyota will introduce the Starlet Cross in South Africa. This SUV, based on the Maruti Fronx with distinctive Toyota design elements, will follow the footsteps of the Glanza, sold as the Toyota Starlet in the same region.

Unlike its Indian counterpart, the Starlet Cross will boast a robust 1.5-litre petrol engine, similar to other Toyota models in the South African market. While the Taisor in India offers a choice of 1.2-litre and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines, the Starlet Cross will feature the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre K15B powerplant.

Toyota’s decision to export the Taisor-turned-Starlet Cross underscores its commitment to leveraging Indian manufacturing capabilities for global markets. The Starlet Cross joins a lineup of successful Indian-made Toyota models in South Africa, including the Vitz, Glanza, Rumion, and Hyryder.

With its blend of reliability, efficiency, and modern design, the Toyota Starlet Cross is poised to make waves in the competitive South African automotive landscape.
