ABOUT THE CAR
New Delhi: MG Motor has revealed its second-gen HS SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. The new MG HS, slightly longer and wider than its predecessor, packs more features and tech and has two powertrain options.
Key Features:
- Five-seat SUV design
- Initial launch in the UK
- Expected India launch includes Cloud EV and Gloster facelift
Powertrain Options:
The new MG HS offers two powertrain choices. The standard petrol engine now produces 170hp. The PHEV model has seen a significant boost, with its electric motor now making 209hp, up from 123hp, giving a combined output of over 300hp. The battery size has increased to 24.7kWh, providing a claimed EV range of around 120km and attracting a BIK tax rate of just 5 percent.
Dimensions and Design:
The new HS is 14mm wider and 26mm longer than the first-gen model, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm. The sleeker roofline, which is 30mm lower, creates a more athletic silhouette.
Interior:
The interior features an all-black theme with red stitching. Standard features include a rear parking camera, keyless entry, and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat. The HS also boasts a pair of 12.3-inch screens with smartphone mirroring, improved switchgear, and enhanced material quality and space. The boot capacity has increased to 507 litres.
MG HS in India:
MG Motor India, in collaboration with JSW, is preparing for several new car and SUV launches. While the Cloud EV and Gloster facelift are confirmed for this year, the HS could potentially be introduced in India in the future, positioned above the Hector and below the Gloster.
The new MG HS promises to be a strong contender in the SUV market with its enhanced features, powerful performance, and stylish design.
