Apple has announced watchOS 11 at WWDC 2024, set to bring a host of new features to eligible Apple Watch models later this year. Here are the highlights:
New Vitals App
– Health Metrics Analysis: The Vitals app will monitor health metrics like breathing, heart rate, sleep duration, and blood oxygen levels (SpO2).
– Alerts: Users will receive notifications if two or more metrics deviate from typical ranges.
Training Load Feature for Workouts
– Workout Insights: This feature provides insights on workout-induced strain over the past week, compared to the last month.
– Effort Rating: Users can rate their effort after workouts. Cardio workouts will have an automatic rating, while strength training will need manual input.
Customisable Fitness Rings
– Pause and Customise: Users can “pause” their fitness rings and take breaks without affecting their award streaks.
– Daily Goals: Activity ring goals can be customised based on the day of the week.
Safety and Personalisation Features
– Check In: Integrated into the Workout app, this feature lets users share their progress with friends or family until the workout ends.
– Translate App: Users can get translations for 20 languages directly on their watch.
– Photos Watch Face: Improved with machine learning to select the best images and create a sense of depth. A Dynamic mode changes photos and layouts when the wrist is raised.
Live Activities and Smart Stack Improvements
– New Widgets: Access new widgets on the Apple Watch with the update.
– Live Activities: Apps like Uber will have real-time updates.
– Smart Stack Upgrade: Displays widgets based on location, time, routine, and other factors.
Compatibility
– Eligible Devices: The watchOS 11 update will be available later this year for Apple Watch Series 6 and newer models. An iPhone XS or newer is required for the update.
