Kohli’s performance in Centurion: Breaking records and leading India in South Africa

New Delhi: Putting on an amazing display of skill and determination, Virat Kohli has etched his name in the annals of Indian cricket history during the ongoing Boxing Day Test in Centurion, South Africa. Breaking his coach Rahul Dravid’s massive record, Kohli has now become India’s third-highest run-scorer in Test matches on South African soil, a testament to his potential on the international stage.

Surpassing Dravid’s tally of 1252 runs in his 15th match, Kohli’s unbeaten 33 not only took him on the record ladder but also took him closer to Virender Sehwag’s tally of 1306 runs. However, the final milestone belongs to the great Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the list with 1741 Test runs in South Africa.

India suffered early setbacks in the Boxing Day Test and lost 24–3. Nevertheless, Kohli showed resilience with Shreyas Iyer and carried the team forward with a crucial 67-run partnership. Kohli, who was out early in his innings, took advantage of the opportunity, played brilliant shots and proved once again why he is the lynchpin of India’s batting.

Since India is eyeing a historic series win in South Africa, Kohli’s form becomes important. After scoring four centuries in the rainbow nation, the modern-day maestro holds the key to India’s success. With the toss delayed due to a wet outfield, India made a tactical change by handing debut to young fast bowler Prasidh Krishna and replacing injured Ravindra Jadeja with experienced Ravichandran Ashwin.
