New Maruti Swift Set for India Launch in May 2024
New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce the latest version of Swift in the Indian market next month, which is one of the important launches of the brand for this year. The upcoming Swift, codenamed YED, promises to bring fresh but recognizable aesthetics, an upgraded interior, additional features, and a new petrol engine.
Based on the same platform as its predecessor, the new Swift will debut the Z series 1.2-litre petrol engine, replacing the outgoing K series powerplant. This three-cylinder engine, which made its debut in Japan last year, is expected to offer similar power output to the existing model, around 90hp and 113Nm of torque. It will likely be equipped with mild-hybrid technology for better efficiency and emissions.
Visually, while the India-bound Swift shares similarities with its international counterpart, it will include some country-specific changes. These include slightly revised front and rear bumpers, a unique alloy wheel design for the mid-spec variant, and an all-black C-pillar reminiscent of the Hyundai i20. Notably, the top-spec variant will feature full LED lights, which will enhance visibility and aesthetics.
On the safety front, the new Swift is expected to come with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, and three-point seatbelts for rear passengers as standard. However, features like the 360-degree camera and ADAS present in the models sold overseas are not expected to be included in the India-bound variants.
As the launch date approaches, more details about the new Swift are expected to emerge, which will shed light on its transmission options and additional features. Maruti Suzuki aims to capitalize on the success of the outgoing model by offering a refreshed design, advanced features, and better fuel efficiency, thereby continuing the Swift’s legacy as a popular choice in the Indian market. Stay tuned for further updates on this much-awaited launch.
