Prime Minister Narendra Modi ₹ 29,400 Crore Mumbai Infrastructure Projects

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to undertake a momentous visit to Mumbai on Saturday, where he will launch, dedicate, and lay foundation stones for a comprehensive array of infrastructure projects exceeding ₹ 29,400 crore. Scheduled at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, this event signifies a substantial commitment to Mumbai’s development across roadways, railways, and ports.

Among the initiatives is the Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), aimed at significantly enhancing regional connectivity. With an estimated cost of ₹ 16,600 crore, this project features twin tunnels beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, linking Borivali’s Western Express Highway to Thane’s Ghodbunder Road. Spanning 11.8 kilometers, it promises to reduce travel distance by 12 kilometers, saving commuters approximately one hour and easing congestion on current routes.

Another crucial endeavor is the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), costing ₹ 6,300 crore and also incorporating twin tunnels. Spanning 6.65 kilometers, it aims to cut travel time from 75 minutes to just 25 minutes, providing vital connectivity between Mumbai’s western and eastern suburbs, and improving access to the proposed Navi Mumbai airport and Pune-Mumbai Expressway.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate enhancements to Mumbai’s railway infrastructure, including the remodeling of Kalyan Yard by Central Railway. This initiative seeks to segregate suburban and long-distance train traffic, thereby boosting punctuality and operational efficiency. Additionally, the inauguration of the Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, will enhance capacity for handling cement and other commodities, fostering economic growth and job creation.

Further advancements include the dedication of new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended platforms at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, accommodating more trains and enhancing passenger convenience, including 24-coach trains.

As part of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will launch the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana,’ a ₹ 5,600 crore youth skill development initiative aimed at equipping young individuals with essential skills for enhanced employability and contribution to various sectors.

Prime Minister Modi’s itinerary also includes inaugurating the INS Towers at the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat in Bandra Kurla Complex, providing a modern workspace for Mumbai’s newspaper industry.

These initiatives are set to revolutionize Mumbai’s infrastructure, addressing long-standing issues of traffic congestion, connectivity, and urban development.
