New Delhi: On this Earth Day, Salesforce India is stepping up its commitment to sustainability by launching “Reboot the Earth,” a series of climate-focused innovation hackathons in collaboration with five United Nations agencies. The initiative aims to bring together a diverse group of individuals, including young computer programmers, architects, scientists, and those familiar with the Salesforce ecosystem, to develop solutions addressing the current climate crisis. The inaugural hackathon was held in Hyderabad.

As part of its sustainability efforts, Salesforce India has unveiled several initiatives through its India CSR grants. These include afforestation projects resulting in the planting of over 400,000 saplings. Key initiatives include:

  • The Malligavad Foundation Project: This project focuses on improving water retention capacity and implementing natural sewage treatment methods at Regula Kunta, a local lake in Hyderabad. It also involves planting 6,000 native saplings using the Miyawaki method to expand urban green spaces.
  • The Miyawaki Afforestation Project: Partnering with Green Yatra, this project transformed a former dump yard into a green oasis in Thane, planting 33,334 saplings across 3.5 acres using the Miyawaki method to promote local biodiversity and address environmental degradation.
  • The Solar Blazer Project: In collaboration with the Youth of India Foundation, Salesforce is launching the “Solar Blazer Project” in three villages in Telangana, providing sustainable solar energy solutions to rural communities. The project aims to produce 260,000 kWh of clean energy annually, reducing CO2 emissions by 226 tonnes and empowering marginalized tribal villages through green skills training and renewable energy adoption.

Sanket Atal, Managing Director of Salesforce India, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating that Salesforce is a proactive leader in the nature-positive movement. The collaboration with the United Nations reflects Salesforce’s ambition to leverage technology for positive change, ensuring a healthier, more resilient planet for future generations.

“Reboot the Earth” provides a platform for innovators to develop open-source digital public goods addressing local climate crises. Participants use technologies like open data, AI, and Salesforce tools to build solutions over two days. Winning teams receive support funds, an opportunity to attend the official Reboot the Earth awards ceremony in NYC, and pro bono mentorship from Salesforce and its partners.

The India event is scheduled for May 22nd and 23rd in Hyderabad. Interested participants can sign up through Reboot The Earth – Hyderabad and refer to the Event FAQ section for more information.
