New Delhi: Xiaomi, the renowned Chinese electronics brand, is stepping into the world of electric vehicles (EVs) with its latest creation, the SU7, short for Speed Ultra 7. The company’s CEO, Lei Jun, has teased that this sleek car aims to be the “best looking, easiest to drive and smartest car” priced below 500,000 yuan ($69,424).

Excitement is brewing as Xiaomi prepares to announce the official price range and begin taking orders for the SU7 this Thursday evening. Lei Jun’s recent comments on Weibo confirm that the car will indeed be affordable, a relief for many potential buyers.

The SU7 has been making waves since its unveiling in December, with Xiaomi aiming to secure a spot among the top five automakers globally. Lei Jun has boasted about the advanced technology packed into the SU7, promising acceleration that rivals top competitors like Tesla and Porsche.

To give consumers a taste of what’s to come, Xiaomi has started displaying the SU7 in 76 stores across 29 Chinese cities. Prospective customers and car enthusiasts alike are flocking to these showrooms to catch a glimpse of the stylish vehicle, available in striking colors like “ocean blue.”

One eager customer, Jim Yan, praised the SU7’s design for its sleek curves and aerodynamic features. He noted Xiaomi’s track record of offering great value in its products, expressing hope that the car’s pricing will remain reasonable.

The SU7 is set to hit the roads in two distinct versions, each boasting remarkable driving ranges. With one variant offering up to 668km (415 miles) on a single charge and the other pushing the boundaries with an impressive 800km range, Xiaomi’s electric car is poised to stand toe-to-toe with competitors like Tesla’s Model S when it comes to endurance and efficiency.

Xiaomi’s foray into the EV market comes at a time when demand for smartphones, its primary industry, is slowing down. By diversifying its offerings, Xiaomi aims to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

Partnering with state-owned automaker BAIC Group, Xiaomi’s cars are being manufactured in a Beijing factory with an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles. The company has pledged a significant investment of $10 billion in the auto sector over the next decade.

With Xiaomi’s reputation for innovation and affordability, the SU7 is poised to make waves in the electric car market, offering consumers an enticing blend of style, performance, and value.
